The wind gods were kind to sailors on day three of the ISAF Grade 2 Sail Auckland. The Metservice forecast winds gusting up to 40 knots but fortunately sailors experienced perfect sailing conditions with an average wind speed of 14 knots and a slight choppy sea.
In sharp contrast to day two’s shifty, blustery winds and very sharp chop, the wind direction stayed steady providing very fair races and enabled the race committee to stay to schedule and even get ahead an extra race in the boards.
In the Laser Radial fleet Miranda POWRIE revelled in the conditions maintaining her lead in the women’s leaderboard and second place overall. Europe sailor Sara WINTHRE is lying close behind her.
In the Lasers, last years top Olympic trialists have climbed to the head of the fleet with Andrew MURDOCH leading the charge followed by Michael BULLOT and Andrew WEAVER.
Tomorrow (Monday) is the final day of the four day regatta, racing commences at 11.00 hours (local time).
The Junior classes finished today with some very competitive racing between old rivals especially in the Optimists.
