SLINGSBY Takes The Lead

Laser Australian Championships 2006
Hobart, Australia

After consecutive bullets in races 7 and 8, Tom SLINGSBY (AUS) has moved into a two point lead of the ISAF Grade 1 Dyson Corporate Security Australian Laser Championships being sailed on Hobart’s Derwent River. Krystal WEIR (AUS) holds a four point lead in the Laser Radial fleet.

Right behind SLINGSBY is three-time Olympian Michael BLACKBURN (AUS). The Australian pair placed first and second in the 2006 Laser World Championship and both are vying for the place in the Australian team for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. World number two Michael LEIGH (CAN) lies in third place. SLINGSBY now takes his two point advantage into the gold fleet with a further four races, with one discard, to decide the 2006 Australian Laser Championship.

In the open Laser Radial fleet, 21 year old WEIR holds a four point lead, with Sarah BLANCK (AUS) the next best of the women competitors in third place overall. Sixth overall and third women is World Championship bronze medallist Tania ELIAS CALLES (MEX).
