- Sailing has been an Paralympic sport since 2000 however it was a demonstration sport at Atlanta 1996
- The 2016 Paralympic Sailing Competition will be hosted at the Marina da Gloria, Rio De Janeiro
- The maximum number of sailors is 80
- There are 3 Paralympic sailing events - the 2.4mR and Sonar are open whilst the SKUD18 must contain at least one female crew member and one crew shall be classified as a TPA (Two-person format classification A).
- Sailors competing in the 2.4mR must have a minimum disability
- The total number of classsification points allowed on the Sonar is 14 points
- The most successful Paralympic sailors are Paul Tingley (CAN), Damien Seguin (FRA), Graeme Martin (AUS) and Jens Kroker (GER) who have all won two medals.
