It was a more than enthusiastic start to the Race 2 of the Alfa Romeo Farr 40 OD Summer Regatta.
While Simon Whiston on Smile took the slow and steady approach to win the race in light southerly breezes, more than half the fleet came to grief after crossing the line too early.
Although Weapon was first across the line, the expected “hooter” never came. Skipper Robert Skinner had failed to acknowledge the early start and was deemed OCS.
Carrying an international crew of English, Irish, New Zealanders and Australians which include Olympic Bronze Medalist (Lasers) Michael Blackburn, Smile came in second across the line to be ultimately declared the provisional winner.
Tactician Doug McGain said “We had a clean start and stayed out of trouble on the starting line. We stayed in touch with the leaders and slowly chipped away.”
Provisional Results: Elapsed time

2.. Emotional Hooligan (Marcus Blackmore) 1:05:36
