Seminar with America’s Cup Sailor Ed Baird Sets Tone for Round One.
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (February 22, 2002) – Day one of the Rolex Women’s Match , an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) grade 4 match racing regatta, kicked off this afternoon at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club (SPYC).
Light winds prevented the SPYC Race Committee, under the leadership of Tom Farquhar, to continue racing past the first flight of round robin one. Five matches were sailed before the wind died completely and racing was
abandoned. The morning was reserved for an on-the water drills session with America’s Cup sailor and world match racing champion Ed Baird, who concluded a two-day clinic for the ten teams of women sailors gathered here.
Two round robins are scheduled on Tampa Bay in Sonar keelboats for Saturday, February 23 through Sunday, February 24.
