New Match Race Boat Launched

America’s Cup skipper Paolo CIAN has co-designed a new match race yacht that was launched today at the Marina di Rimini. The new boat, Blu Sail 24 Sport is a complete revisitation of the former O.D. Blu Sail 24, designed by Luca Brenta.

The project has totally removed cabins and interiors, creating a very spacious cockpit to the advantage of crew’s manouvres during match race regatta. The new Blu Sail 24 Sport has the same hull shape of her old sister, but a new keel design for more power and stability, even the sail area has been slightly reduced, for a tight control in strong wind conditions.

The bow has been redesigned and built with a soft and anti-crash material, and is also easily replaceable. Paolo CIAN, who will sail this season match race circuit with Riviera di Rimini Team, created this new project for his Team’s boss, Giorgio Benvenuti, owner of the maxi Riviera di Rimini and CEO of the newest Marina di Rimini tourist port, organiser of Blurimini International Sailing Week.

The new Blu Sail 24 Sport has been choosen as official boat for the 2003 World Match Race at Riva del Garda, on lake Garda, next August. But the first race of this model is now: starting from tomorrow, Thursday 5th june, until Saturday 7th june, with Blurimini Match Race, ISAF Grade 2 event, with 10 skippers including, Karol JABLONSKI, Paolo CIAN, James SPITHILL, Bjorn HANSEN, Mathieu RICHARD, Kelvin HARRAP, Andy GREEN, Ian WILLIAMS, Sebastien COL, Lars NORBJAERG.
