Open Slots For First Event Of German Match Race Circuit

The German Match Race Season opens with a new event, the “AUDI Spring Battle 04”, an ISAF Grade 3 event to be held at the VsaW, Lake Wannsee, Berlin, Germany from 26-28 March.

Developed by matchklub.de, this event is especially designed for young match racing teams and was tested last year with the “ONe Spring Battle 2003”.

Racing will take place on one-design Streamline boats – with a crew of 3, 2 trapezes and kite.

So far, hot shot Paul CAMPBELL-JAMES (GBR), world ranked number 34 and the Student Match Racing Champion, and Carsten KEMMLING (GER), world ranked number 27 and winner of the “Meisterschaft der Meister”, have entered as well as other German locals ranked in the top 100 of the ISAF Match Racing World Rankings.

This year’s event sponsored by AUDI has introduced new features, including a Match Race Gate Course on which the start and finish will be in between the start and the spectator-vessel.

Wireless head-sets will transfer on-board communication from the helmsman to the spectator vessel which will allow spectators a deeper insight to the sailing action. On-board commentator will be the past 470 World Champion Rolf SCHMIDT (GER).

Complimentary beverage and catering, sponsored by ONe, on the spectator-vessel will comfort sailors and guests. The ONe After Sail Lounge Party will take place at the famous nightclub 90° at downtown Berlin on Saturday night presenting the Video Clip with sailing action from the event.
