ISAF President, Paul HENDERSON on his recent visit to Athens, described the Agios Kosmas Olympic venue, where the Olympic Regatta will take place this August, as having the best sailing facilities he has ever seen.
“The whole venue is fantastic. I would say it is the best we have had in the Olympic Games so far. I am certain that in the summer we will have many honoured guests who will want to watch the races precisely because it is such a beautiful venue. We discussed various issues with Organising Committee administrators and I would say that there are no problems and everything is going according to plan.”
Mr Henderson, who was accompanied by ISAF Vice-president, Giorgos ANDREADIS, and ISAF General Secretary, Arve SUNDHEIM, was briefed by ATHENS 2004 Executive Director, Spyros CAPRALOS, Sports General Manager, Makis ASIMAKOPOULOS, the Venue Manager for the Olympic Sailing Centre, Takis NIKIFORIDES, the Sailing Competition Manager, Dimitrios ALEVIZAKIS, and Organising Committee administrators about the progress of preparations for the Olympic Sailing Tournament in various topics.
ISAF officials were also briefed on Olympic venue issues such as accommodation, sailing vessels, accreditation, sport equipment, and transport.
