Wharington Bags Another

Winner of Line Honours in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 2003 Grant WHARINGTON can add another medal to his cabinet, having just finished in third position in the BMW Celebrity Challenge at the Melbourne Grand Prix.

With Australian gold medallists James Tomkins and Andrew Hoy taking first and second places Wharington was in good company, and delighted with his result.

Referring to race favourite Anthony Mundine’s fourth placing Wharington, a self confessed speed freak and motor racing fan, joked, ‘There aren’t many people out there who have gone five rounds with Mundine and come out smiling!

The whole thing is such a buzz – I have really enjoyed the week – BMW did a fantastic job’

Wharington was pleased to be able to entertain some of his fellow celebrities on board ‘Skandia’ during the week and with 20 knot winds in Port Philip Bay they had quite a bumpy ride. ‘There were a few green faces during the two hour trip, and I think some of the guys had their eyes opened to what a challenge the sport of ocean racing can be’ he said.

So will Grant be trading in his Formula One super maxi for a Formula One racing car? ‘No thanks, I think I’ll stick to the water for the time being’ he says with a smile, ‘ I don’t think my eardrums could cope!’
