Freddie LOOF and Anders ELKSTROM (SWE) capitalised on day two to take the lead in the Bacardi Gold Cup with consistent race finishes in the first two of the event. Overnight leader Paul CAYARD and Phil TRINTER (USA) suffered with an OCS yesterday.

It was difficult conditions on Biscayne Bay for the second day of racing. The predicted 15-18 knot breeze was being fought tooth and nail by a thermal sea breeze, which resulted in light, unstable conditions that tested even the World’s best in the Star.

Current results make for interesting reading, day one saw a plethora of black flag OCS scorelines, including worst possible starts to the regatta from the likes of Iain PERCY and Steve MITCHELL (GBR) and Mark NEELEMAN and Peter Van NIEKERK (NED). Then today, Cayard and Trinter saw their position plummet with an OCS.

It is early days though, and the competitive nature of this fleet ensures that racing will be tight, with the regatta going to those who make the least mistakes in the epic, 93 boat fleet.
