French Maintain European Lead

French sailors Olivier BACKES and Laurent VOIRON are maintaining their lead at the Tornado Europeans in Gran Canaria, whilst Leigh MCMILLAN and Mark BULKELEY (GBR) have jumped to second after four races.

The Spanish entry, Fernando ECHAVARRI and Antón PAZ, after a disappointing 23 place finish in the fourth race of the championship have dropped to third position in the European event, and fourth overall in the Mats Nyberg Trophy. Darren BUNDOCK and John FORBES (AUS) are leading the overall competition, on equal points with the first Europeans, Backes and Voiron.

Yesterday racing was held in a stable force 2 blowing from the northern quadrant. A light breeze that did little to the sea state and occasionally brought blasts of sand from the Sahara desert over the windward-Leeward courses. Two races were sailed.
