The Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) of US SAILING has announced the team which will represent the U.S.A. at the 2004 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship.

The Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC) of US SAILING has announced the team which will represent the U.S.A. at the 2004 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship.

The championships will be sailed 8-17 July 2004, in Gdynia, Poland, and is open athletes who will not reach their 19th birthday in 2004. Racing will take place on the Bay of Gdansk in the following classes (events) and the members of the 2004 US Youth World Team are:

Single-handed Dinghy Boys – Laser – Reed JOHNSON (Tom’s River, NJ)
Single-handed Dinghy Girls – Laser Radial – Paige RAILEY (Clearwater, Fla)
Double-handed Dinghy Boys – 420 – Zach BROWN & Graham BIEHL (San Diego, Calif)
Double-handed Dinghy Girls – 420 – Leigh KEMPTON (Island Heights, NJ) & Kaity STORCK (Huntington, NY)
Windsurfing Boys – Mistral – The US will not have a competitor in this event
Windsurfing Girls – Mistral – Nancy RIOS (Naples, Fla)
Multihull Open – Hobie 16 Race Speed- Harry NEWKIRK (Gulf Breeze, Fla) & Tommy FRUITTICHER (Pensacola Beach, Fla)

Paige RAILEY, competing in the single-handed dinghy girls event will be making her third trip to the ISAF Youth World Championship. She took the bronze in 2002 but will be hoping to repeat her gold medal winning performance of 2003. Two other members competed at the 2003 ISAF Youth World Championship in 2003 in Madeira; Nancy RIOS finished eleventh in the Windsurfing girls and Zach BROWN, just outside the medals, finished fourth in the double-handed dinghy boys.

The US Youth World Team is sponsored by Rolex Watch, U.S.A. and Vanguard. Suppliers to the Team are Extrasport, Gill North America, and Sperry Top-Sider.
