Twenty-four hours before the final of the European Championship and Open International (Mats Nyberg Trophy), the Dutch team of Mitch BOOTH and Herbie DERCKSEN are the leaders although they are chased by Oliver BACKES and Laurent VOIRON (FRA).

The French team, winners of yesterday’s second race, are piling the pressure on booth for the final day today.

At 10 O’clock yesterday, before boats went on the water, participants and organisers from 20 countries observed an emotive minute of silence in respect of the victims of events in Madrid at the dry dock flag area, Real Club Náutico Gran Canaria.

Once on the water, the start of the seventh race was delayed one hour due to unsteady winds. Finally, 51 participants found a northerly force 3, 10-12 knots, and very poor tides.

Roman HAGARA and Peter STEINACHER (AUT) are at 13th modest position, congratulations to French team Yann GUICHARD and Christophe ESPAGNON, with a first position and second position respectively in yesterday’s races, they have taken advantage of four months training in Las Palmas.

The Spanish team of Fernando ECHAVARRI and Antón PAZ with an eighth and a fifth position yesterday are in fifth position in the general classification which could be the good one if things do not change today. Far away are Jos’ María PONCE and Ramón ILLÁN in 11 position.

Regarding Open International, the winner are indeed the Australian team Darren Bundoch and John Forbes with yesterday’s results.

Today is the last day and with two scheduled races from 12 o’clock onwards Prize and Trophy giving ceremony will take place at half past eight at Real Club Náutico, an entertainment program and fire-works were prepared for the closing ceremony but it has been cancelled due to our declared three days official mourning.
