Katie Richardson Receives US SAILING C.R.E.W. Award

Katie RICHARDSON, US SAILING Olympic Programs Manager, has received US SAILING’s C.R.E.W. Award. Richardson was presented with the award on Friday morning at US SAILING’s Spring Meeting in Mobile, Alabama.

The C.R.E.W. award recognizes US SAILING staff and volunteers who effectively set clear expectations, show mutual respect, and are committed to collaboration within the organization. Above and beyond her strong interpersonal skills in dealing with her colleagues, Richardson received the award because of her remarkable support of and attention not only to volunteers but also to athletes all over the world.

Richardson has been with US SAILING for four years, but her actual sailing experience dates back almost twenty years. During her college career, she was the head sailing instructor at the Barrington Yacht Club, in Barrington, RI, for a sailing program of 190 young sailors. These experiences prepared her well to take responsibility as Manager of our all important Olympic programs attending, through the U.S. Olympic Committee, to the various funding requirements, monitoring all drug testing, overseeing and managing the shipment of all of our gear and equipment world wide, and not least, managing the myriad of administrative matters that allow athletes wherever they are around the globe to focus exclusively on their task at hand-winning championships.

The C.R.E.W. award, first presented in the spring of 2002, is now a regular part of US SAILING spring and general meetings. It’s based on the C.R.E.W. Member Agreement, which establishes the values by which staff and volunteers strive to work together:

C stands for Commitment to exceptional service.
R is for Respecting fellow CREW members.
E stands for Expectating Excellence as a standard.
W is for Working together in a responsible consistent fashion.
