Challenge Business today announced that Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) headquartered in San Diego, Calif., has signed on as the latest corporate sponsor in the upcoming Global Challenge round-the-world yacht race.
The SAIC-sponsored yacht will begin competing in the Global Challenge in October 2004.
“We are pleased to be able to support the exciting Global Challenge yacht race,” said Hadi Bozorgmanesh, SAIC senior vice president. “The company looks forward to providing our employees the opportunity to be part of a professional racing crew and compete in this world class yachting challenge.”
This is the fourth race since its inauguration in 1992. The Global Challenge 2004/5 will feature 12 teams for the 10-month event. Skipper, Eero LEHTINEN of Finland and his 17 Crew Volunteers will sail the SAIC yacht. The race starts on October 3, 2004 from Portsmouth, GBR. Conditions will range from the unpredictable calms of the doldrums to the immense seas of the southern oceans, where the crews will encounter icebergs and gale force winds.
“We’re delighted that a company of SAIC’s calibre and worldwide reputation has agreed to become one of our sponsors and participate in the event,” said Sir Chay BLYTH, executive chairman of Challenge Business. “I’m sure that their involvement will add a new dimension to this exciting race.”
