Maiden II Leaves For Doha

West country Explorer Dom MEE, International Yachtsman and Adventurer, who late last year returned from the Arctic has today boarded the World Record breaking yacht Maiden II.

Dom joined Tracey EDWARDS’S catamaran in Southampton as part of her crew to deliver the vessel to Gulf state of Qatar. The trip is expected to take just short of a month and will transit the Bay of Biscay, through the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal and onto the Gulf to Doha Qatar.

Maiden II is to arrive in Doha as part of a massive PR drive to promote a new Formula One of the sea race series.

This will mark the establishment of two new events in the sailing calendar; The Oryx Cup in 2005 and The Qatar Sports International Challenge in 2006. In January 2005, The Oryx Cup, a new non-stop global race for giant multihulls will start from the UK and end in the UK. The prize for first place in this race will be the biggest cash prize in sailing history – a massive US$1 million.
