Day Three Cancelled

Strong breeze has yet again forced the cancellation of racing at the Olympic harbour in Barcelona as 40-knot breezes and 5-metre swells battered the Spanish coast yesterday.

Competitors waited in the marina until just after 1400 hrs, at which point it became clear that racing was going to be impossible, and the race committee cancelled for the day.

Today is the last scheduled day of racing and with only one race held so far for all the classes, except for the 49er and Tornado fleets, who have no results as yet.

Both the 49er and Tornado completed a race on Saturday, however, they were subsequently abandoned by the International Jury. Today the race committee will be keen to get as many in as possible and racing has been brought forward from 1300 hrs to start at 1100 hrs. It is planned to get four races for the 49ers and Tornados, and three for the remaining classes.

The breeze is forecast to drop today, but with a nasty swell left from the storm and the ever present threat of rain, which could well kill the breeze, conditions will be tough for competitors and race officials alike.
