Sundby Wins With One To Spare

Siren SUNDBY (NOR) won the recently held Women’s fleet at the Europe World Championship with a race to spare, and with it her place as one of the most successful sailors in the class ever.

Showing a dominance and skill that couldn’t be matched in the class , she has steadily upped her game leading to the Olympic Games in Athens next month, where she will have the hopes of her country on her shoulders in the quest for an Olympic Gold Medal.

Not needing to race in the last race, Siren pushed old rival Sari MULTALA (FIN) into second place, securing her second World Championship title. The couple will go head to head once again at the Olympic Games and as always with the Olympic Sailing Competition, the slate is wiped clean and anything could happen.

Most of the Olympic hopefuls in the class were present at the event that formed part of Europe Open week, held in the sailing waters off Cagliari in Sardinia. Third place eventually went to another Olympic medal hopeful, Petra NIEMANN (GER)
