Telefónica Movistar Appoints Farr Yacht Design

The Telefónica MoviStar team continues to give shape to the Spanish Challenge and while preparations are gaining momentum in Sanxenxo and Vigo, the yacht that will represent Spain, has started to take shape in the office of Farr Yacht Design.

This prestigious company has been chosen to develop the design of the boat in which Pedro Campos’ team will try to win the Volvo Ocean Race for Spain. Farr Yacht Design (FYD) based in Annapolis, Maryland, USA, has a history of more than 20 years in top-level competition.

Telefónica MoviStar’s project director, Pedro CAMPOS, commented; ‘After a profound analysis of the best designers in the world, and keeping in mind the team’s requirements to accomplish a winning project, we have selected FYD. We especially value the company’s vast experience in top level sailing competition and in particular it’s successful history in the Volvo Ocean Race and The Whitbread.’

‘We have spent many years working on projects with FYD in various types of boats and we hope that this decision is decisive in helping Spain achieve the highest level in the next Volvo Ocean Race,’ Campos added.
