Dodgy Day Three
The third day of the OK World Championship being held from Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole proved very frustrating for both sailors and the race committee alike.
The third day of the OK World Championship being held from Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole proved very frustrating for both sailors and the race committee alike.
The same conditions that affected the Rolex Commodores’ Cup fleet in the Solent nearby had the same effect on the OK fleet in Poole Bay. With light variable winds and cloudy conditions there was very little prospect of a sea breeze developing.
The PRO held the competitors ashore whilst he went out into the Bay with two support boats to monitor conditions. After a total postponement of 4 hours he decided that, with very little hope of a reasonable sailing breeze coming in, there would not be any racing that day.
Racing should resume today for the championship fleet, with a higher ambient temperature today and very little cloud cover, there is more chance of a sea breeze in the racing area.
