5.5 Metre Worlds - title goes to Norway

All the top boats from Europe and Australia packed their 5.5 in a high cube 40 ft container to join the 5.5 Metre World Championship in Nassau Bahamas. Very exciting racing took place in the crystal blue waters with some times dolphins on the bow.

The teams where so close that being in the top three one day you could end up in a tenth place the next. Wind varied from an average 10 to 20 knots and various directions. No effort where spared to make a great event varying from putting a 5.5. in the swimming pool for the opening ceremony and having John HANLY as international race leader

Kristian NERGARD with his crew took the Gold in the worlds and won the Gold Cup beating the Swiss Olympic Star Sailors Flavio MARAZZI, Stefan HAFTKA, Renato MARAZZI and winners of last two World Championships. The bronze went to local sailor Gavin McKINNEY and his Norwegian crew , Peter HAUFF and Lars HORN JOHANNESEN followed by 10 times Swiss Champions Jürg MENZI, Leonard GAUME and Daniel STAMPFLI.
