Ferrarese Takes Master Espana Match Race Title

Simone Ferrarese with his Ferrarese Racing Team won the ISAF Grade 2 Master de Espana, organised by the Monte Real Club de Yates, after he defeated Manu Weiller (ESP) 3-1 in the Final.

Twelve teams from eight nations were competing on board the Figaró Beneteau in the usual match-racing format with a single round robin, semi-finals and finals.

Ferrarese raced without mistakes through the whole event and sealed victory against Weiller, a promising Spanish match racer who defeated Will Tiller in a close battle 3-2 in the semi final.

The Ferrarese Racing Team battled for the trophy, which in previous years was won by the best specialist and most titled skippers in this discipline such as Italy’s Francesco Bruni and the German Jochen Schuemann.

On board with Ferrarese was Michele Valenti as tactician, Corrado Capece Minutulo as trimmer, Piero Romeo as strategist and Federico Laici on the bow.

At the end of the event Simone Ferrarese said, “It was a great satisfaction for me and my team to win the Master de España, because the matches were really depending on tactical decisions as the wind was very light and tricky.

“Our opponents were of very high level and I am sure that the World Match Racing Tour leg we took part in Bermuda at the beginning of October it was very important for the self-confidences of our team. The result here in Spain is the proof of this mental growth of our team. The Master de España is an important regatta in the match racing circuit and will help us to climb up the World’s Open Match Race Ranking list.”
