Kiwis Open Doors For 470 Junior Worlds

The 470 World Junior Championships is being held in New Zealand in January 2012. The waters of the Hauraki Gulf, off Takapuna Beach on the north shore of Auckland are well known for the many world championship and Americas cup regattas held there over recent years.

Known as the City of sails, Auckland has recently been in the news for hosting the Rugby World Cup final.

The Junior world 470 championship is open to all sailors under the age of 21 years and is a recognised proving ground for the senior ranks with many Junior world champions going on the win a coveted open world title.

The New Zealand organising committee would like to extend a warm invitation to all junior 470 sailors and members of the local sailing community are opening up their homes to visiting sailors. The Kiwi’s want to bring old fashioned hospitality back into vogue for international sailing regattas on their shores. With economic uncertainty surrounding us, it’s important that we make international competition within our sport as affordable as possible. The offer is open to all visiting crews to stay with a New Zealand family for the duration of the regatta.

Shipping from Europe has been subsidised by a local Takapuna freight forwarder. Containers will be leaving from Rotterdam and Marseilles at the end of November and will be placed on the ground beside the yacht club. The objective is to make competing in New Zealand a no fuss exercise.

The Junior Worlds from 26 January to 3rd February will be preceded by the Pre worlds on 21 and 22 January and will be followed by Sail Auckland 4th to 7th February. For more information http://www.470sailing.org.nz/470JW’s/news.html
