After a light wind start to the Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships on Monday, the intensity will increase on Tuesday with stronger winds forecast.

A west north westerly breeze will come in at 8-14 knots with gusts up to 26 knots early on in the day which will test the 29er and 420 girl’s fleet who start at 11:00 local time.

As the day progresses, the wind will shift towards the north and decrease to 6-12 knots. At 16:00 the breeze is expected to swing back to the north west and pick up to a maximum of 18 knots.

For the Girl’s 29er and 420 and the Boy’s and Girl’s RS:X fleets, Tuesday marks the start of their 2019 Hempel Youth Worlds campaign after they were unable to race on Monday due to light breeze. Each fleet have an additional race scheduled in a bid to catch up on their schedule.

The Laser Radial fleets have an additional race and it will be business as usual for the Boy’s 29er and 420 and the Mixed Nacra 15 fleet who continue their racing. Early frontrunners have emerged in those fleets and the young competitors from 66 nations will be targeting strong results to either solidify their position at the top of the fleet or push up.

To ensure an equal playing field at the Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships, equipment has been supplied by Ovington Boats (29er), Nautivela (420), Laser Performance / Maclaren (Laser Radial) and Nacra Sailing (Nacra 15). The RS:X racers are sailing on their own equipment for 2019.
