The Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships is nearing its conclusion with just a handful of races left to decide the medallists in the nine events racing in Gdynia, Poland.
On Wednesday, the leaderboards shaped up nicely as a full complement of racing was completed. There were some outstanding performances in the Boy’s RS:X, Girl’s 420 and Boy’s 29er with the leading teams firmly on track to clinch gold. It is possible that they can seal the honours with a day to spare on Thursday.
Catch up on yesterday’s highlights below:
Thursday’s schedule of racing is for a full schedule whereas Friday’s will feature one single race for all fleets.
The forecast for Thursday is currently not favourable. Before 14:00 local time, the forecast suggests a variable breeze that ranges from 2-4 knots. After this, the breeze may pick up and stabilise from a northern direction but anything from 2-8 knots is possible.
The Race Management team will keep a close eye on the breeze throughout the day to ensure a fair competition for all of the competitors.
A further way to ensure a fair competition in Gdynia is the supply of boats. The 409 sailors from 66 nations racing across identical boats supplied by Ovington Boats (Boy’s and Girl’s 29er), Nautivela (Boy’s and Girl’s 420), Laser Performance / Maclaren (Boy’s and Girl’s Laser Radial) and Nacra Sailing (Mixed Nacra 15). Only the RS:X racers are sailing on their own equipment for 2019.
