By the end of the second day of the Youth Match Racing World Championship Australia’s Tom Grimes held on to this lead but he faced a new challenge from Danish and Kiwi teams who are in second and third.

At the end of the first round robin, Grimes tops the billing having won ten of 11 races he has sailed in with Jeppe Borch of Denmark, Nick Egnot-Johnson of New Zealand and Igor Tarasiuk of Poland all winning eight of 11.

Flavio Naveira (ARG), Chief Umpire said, “Today was a very long day, but very productive, because we did a lot of racing. We have a lot of different kinds of winds and also rain. The competitors showed a lot of improvement compared to yesterday when it was the first day. Today we finished the first Round Robin and started the second Round Robin.”

Jeppe Borch, skipper of the Danish team commented, “It was quite an exciting day. We beat some of the top teams (the #1 team from yesterday) in a tough race against them. We just managed to get ahead of them at the finish line but there was a loud commotion going on for sure. My crew members are very emotional and they go from happy to angry very fast… that’s just something we have to work on as a team.

“The technical team, the Organizers and volunteers have been very helpful and replied really fast every time we needed some help with something because our Russian is not very good.”

Igor Tarasiuk, skipper of the Polish team added, “So today we won four races and lost two, it is not perfect sailing but we are happy about this score, we finished the first round robin in 4th position, it is good. But we will have a lot of races tomorrow, the other teams are very strong, so we will try to do our best.”
