Day #5 Morning Report - Hempel World Cup Series Enoshima

Saturday 31 August will see the first five podiums decided with Medal Races scheduled in the 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 and Men's and Women's RS:X.

Saturday 31 August will see the first five podiums decided with Medal Races scheduled in the 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 and Men’s and Women’s RS:X.

The last three days of competition have been plagued with heavy, brutal winds coupled with powerful waves that have really pushed the 496 sailors from 46 nations to their limits.

Out of the ten fleets, only the Men’s RS:X have sailed a full series of races. This has resulted in minimal separation at the top of today’s Medal Race fleets. It will all be on the line today as sailors aim to lay down a marker on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic waters less than one year before the Olympic Sailing Competition.

Medal Races will be available to watch here – https://youtu.be/XOPsr6uWWto

The Men’s and Women’s 470, Finn, Laser and Laser Radial will continue fleet racing with three further races scheduled which should take them up to their full schedule.

Saturday’s weather conditions are less severe than the day’s prior. A south west breeze ranging from 13-20 knots will be present with gusts up to 24 knots. The sea state will also be calmer with the two metre waves decreasing to one to 1.5 metres.
