Great Britain’s Megan Pascoe dominated the 2.4mR World Championship in Genoa, Italy, never finishing outside of the top three, to claim a comprehensive victory.

After a week of rough weather, Pascoe was always in control and led from the first race. Marko Dahlberg of Finland took silver and Sweden’s Fia Fjelddahl completed the podium.

Heavy seas and strong winds forced retirements across the series but the 91 competitors from 15 nations battled hard throughout the week.

The fourth and final day, decisive for the rankings, began under a rain-filled sky, with waves of up to two metres and a stiff south easterly between 15-18 knots with frequent gusts.

The Northern European crews were at ease in the conditions and dominated the top of the rankings right from the first race. There was a consistent performance from Great Britain’s Megan Pascoe, with a series of impeccable races (1,1,2,3,2,1,2) who became 2.4mR World Champion.

“It was an incredible week, we expected gentle conditions but the opposite happened,” said a sparkling Pascoe returning to land after the final race. “This is my second world title and I’ve been sailing the 2.4 for 18 years, but winning in Genoa was special.”

As well as the world title and awards for the individual races, during the prizegiving the following awards were presented:
