Registration open for inaugural Virtus Para Sailing World Championships
The first ever Para World Sailing Championships for athletes with an intellectual impairment is taking place at Southport Yacht Club in Gold Coast, Australia, from 5-11 November.
The championship will see sailors compete in the Hansa 303 class as part of the Virtus Oceania Asia Games Brisbane 2022 (OA Games 2022).
In the build up to the OA Games 2022, organisers are hosting four webinar sessions to inform sports administrators, coaches, parents or guardians about every aspect of the championships, including travel requirements and athlete eligibility.
Each hour-long webinar covers information about the Para World Sailing Championships and OA Games 2022, Virtus and athlete eligibility and answer questions about the Games.

To be eligible for the Para World Sailing Championships, sailors must appear on the Virtus master list no later than 5 September 2022. It is strongly advised that applications for new athletes be submitted by mid-August 2022 to allow every submission to be processed ahead of the regatta.

The Para World Sailing Championships for athletes with an intellectual impairment are sanctioned by World Sailing, the global governing body for the sport of sailing, and supported by Virtus, the international sport federation for athletes with an intellectual impairment. The two organisations formed a partnership in 2019 with the aim of working together to grow a sustainable future for sailors with intellectual impairments.
About Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022
Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022 (OA Games 2022) is an international multi-sport elite competition for athletes with an intellectual impairment.
The Games are being held in Brisbane, Australia from 5-11 November and will invite up to 1,000 international athletes and officials for six days of competition across the following sports: athletics, basketball, cycling, judo, rowing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis & triathlon.
OA Games 2022 is an event managed by Sport Inclusion Australia, Australia’s national Virtus member sporting organisation and founding member of Paralympics Australia.
The Virtus Para World Sailing Championships will be held in collaboration between World Sailing, Virtus, Southport Yacht Club and Sport Inclusion Australia.
