Breezing Up on Day 4!

With a total of 50 races across the 11 events scheduled for Windier Wednesday, there’s plenty of potential for moving up (and down) the scoreboard.

The forecast is for the breeze to blow between 11 to 16 knots in the morning through to about 1400 hours when it’s expected to increase to 12 to 18 knots, all the while clocking around from 300 degrees at 1000 hours through to 360 degrees (northerly) by 1800 hours.

It could gust up to 23 knots at times which on a sea state of 0.5 metres building up to 0.9 metres, the skiffs might have to watch out for pitchpoling into the back of short, steep waves. It’s an altogether different challenge for the foiling classes, the iQFOiL windsurfers who have eight races on the schedule, and the Formula Kite athletes who will be switching down to smaller kites today.

There are five course areas, with a slightly earlier start to racing today:

• Course A – from 1000 hours, eight races each for Windsurfing Male and Female (Youth iQFOiL)
• Course B – at 1100 hours, four races for Female Skiff (29er), then four races for Male Skiff at 1430 hours
• Course C – at 1100 hours, four races for Multihull Mixed (Nacra 15 class), then at 1300 hours three races each for One Person Dinghy Male and Female fleets (ILCA 6 class)
• Course D – at 1100 hours, two races for the Female 420 fleet and at 1330 hours two races for the Male/Mixed 420 fleet
• Course E – at 1200 hours, six races each for Kiteboarding Male and Female (Formula Kite)
