SailGP: Flying F50 fleet hits the water in Copenhagen

SailGP’s flying F50s have hit the water in Copenhagen to begin practice racing ahead of the ROCKWOOL Sail Grand Prix, which gets underway tomorrow.

Seven teams hit the water to get to grips with their F50s in light wind conditions, while Spain and Great Britain were forced to sit out practice racing after sustaining damage in training.

The current forecast projects wind speeds of 8 km/h with gusts of 19 km/h on Friday and 16 km/h with gusts of 32 km/h on Saturday.

Home favorites Denmark will be looking to impress crowds around Copenhagen harbour, and capitalize on its first podium position secured in Plymouth. In practice racing, Nicolai Sehested’s team looked in promising form, picking up two third place finishes.

Speaking to SailGP.com, Sehested admitted racing at home can bring additional ‘distractions’, but said he was determined to remain focused on the racing.

Switzerland also put in a confident performance around the racecourse with co-driver Nathan Outteridge behind the wheel.

Five fleet races will be contested across Friday and Saturday before the three boat match race final on Saturday. SailGP’s visit to Copenhagen marks the fourth event in its 11 event Season 3 schedule.
