World Sailing statement 22 August 2022
On 23 May 2022, World Sailing’s Council and Member National Authorities voted to temporarily suspend eight Russian and Belarussian members of Council and World Sailing’s various committees and bodies.
The individuals who were temporarily suspended issued appeals against their temporary suspensions on 29 May 2022.
An Independent Panel comprising individuals nominated by Sport Resolutions, was appointed by World Sailing’s Judicial Board on 6 July 2022 in order to hear the appeals.
The Independent Panel issued its decision on 12 August 2022, which found that World Sailing was entitled to impose the temporary suspensions, that the associated written resolutions were valid and, therefore, that the temporary suspensions were upheld, save that it was found that World Sailing was not entitled to temporarily suspend individuals from committees or bodies that they were not members of or which were not referred to in the written resolutions approving the temporary suspensions.
