Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022
World Sailing is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
She devoted her life to representing the nation, both at home and abroad, becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history. Throughout 70 years on the throne she never wavered from her duties to the people, as well as to charities, hospitals and organisations across the country.
Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was also an inspiration to sailors in the UK, the Commonwealth and across the world. In 1948, as Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh, she and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, became members of the Royal Yachting Association (then known as Yacht Racing Association).
Her Majesty had also been a patron of the RNLI and The Royal Yacht Squadron since ascending to the throne in 1952 and owned and sailed HMY Bloodhound.
Our thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, RYA President, and the Royal family at this time.
We join with the rest of the nation and people around the world in mourning her death and celebrating her life and legacy.
