SailGP: Aussies tipped for Sydney success as fans also back Kiwis and Emirates GBR

Home advantage will clearly be a key factor at this weekend's KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix, with SailGP's fanbase backing the Aussies to reach the Final on home waters.

The Aussies, who won in Sydney last season, head into their home event atop the Championship rankings – nine points clear of nearest challengers New Zealand.

And it is the Kiwis tipped to join Tom Slingsby’s team in the winner-takes-all Final on Sydney Harbour, alongside Ben Ainslie’s Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team.

In our pre-event poll, 31 per cent of fans voted for Australia to qualify for the Final, with New Zealand recording 28 per cent of the vote and 18 per cent going to Emirates GBR.

There’s a full round of fleet racing ahead before the event-deciding Final – which will take place on Sunday afternoon – and, as has been proven previously in SailGP, anything can happen on the water.

But the Aussies are the current season leaders, and are racing on home waters, so it would be no surprise to see them in the Final – where they will race for event glory and to extend their Championship lead even further.
