Marit Bouwmeester discusses her love for the North Sea in 'Get Ready for the Best' finale

She expresses her admiration for the North Sea, describing it as an ideal location with strong currents and beautiful waves, making it a perfect place for technical sailing, something she enjoys.

The podcast also features Hilbert Bredemeijer, the sports alderman of The Hague, discussing how the city consistently manages to host major sailing events and the challenges it faces during those occasions. The city has gained recognition in the international sailing world with an impressive track record.

For Bouwmeester, the Allianz Sailing World Championships serve as a great stepping stone towards the upcoming Olympics in Paris or, more specifically, Marseille, where the sailing competitions will take place. Becoming a world champion in her home country is a fantastic opportunity that doesn’t come often, and the added bonus of securing a ticket to the Olympics makes it even better.

Apart from excelling at the highest level, Bouwmeester is already thinking about the future. Through the Marit Bouwmeester Academy, her aim is to make sailing more accessible for children. She is not solely focused on finding talent that can become Olympic champions, but she also wants to give back to the next generation and make sailing more inclusive.

This fourth episode of ‘Get Ready for the Best’, powered by Allianz, is the last in the series where they look ahead to the largest sailing event ever held in the Netherlands, taking place from 10 to 20 August.

The first episode, featuring Olympic champion Kiran Badloe and Para Sailor Alexandra Rickham, was published on 5 July. The previous episodes were released on 12 and 19 July.
