World Sailing confirms Safeguarding Disciplinary Tribunal appointments
World Sailing can confirm the appointment of 11 members to its Safeguarding Disciplinary Tribunal.
Following a rigorous recruitment process which saw an unprecedented number of high-quality applications received, the following have been appointed for a three-year term:
- Ian Brownhill (GBR)
Ian Brownhill is a barrister at 39 Essex Chambers in their London office. Ian holds judicial positions with The Football Association of England and the British Equestrian Federation, and also has a busy safeguarding practice in respect of adults and children.
- Emma Davey (IRL)
Emma Davey is a junior counsel barrister called to the Bar of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England and Wales. Emma is a qualified Arbitrator (FCIArb) and Secretary of the Sports Law Bar Association of Ireland as well as ISA instructor and coach, having taught and raced boats around the globe.
- Julien Deux (FRA)
With extensive experience in proceedings before judicial bodies at FIFA, Julien Deux has managed numerous complex legal matters, regulatory frameworks, and strategic initiatives within international sports organisations. He also actively participates in several judicial bodies in various sports federations.
- Marguerite Kehoe (IRL)
Marguerite was called to the Bar of Ireland in 2022 and has a general civil practice. She sits on the Board of the Leinster Hockey Association and the Disciplinary Control Unit in the Football Association of Ireland.
- Elana Liberman (CAN)
Elana, a child protection lawyer by training, has been in a safeguarding role for the last five years. She has extensive experience as a mediator and conciliator and most recently, has developed a focus on restorative justice. She is committed to creating and maintaining safe, inclusive, and accessible sport environments.
- Juanita Maiden (AUS)
Juanita is a sports lawyer with significant experience in tribunal, disciplinary and integrity matters. She is a member of the Paralympics Australia Intentional Misrepresentation Panel and has appeared before the National Sports Tribunal and Australian Human Rights Commission.
- Jimena Menendez (MEX)
Jimena is a sports psychologist of eight years’ standing, former high-performance swimmer and qualified safeguarding officer. She was the designated Welfare Officer for the Mexican delegation at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games having developed the safeguarding policy and code of conduct specific to the event.
- Caroline Mwanzia (KEN)
Caroline Mwanzia is a sports advocate practicing in areas including anti-doping, safeguarding, sports governance and agency. She is also an ad hoc clerk with the Court of Arbitration for Sport and a member of Women in Sports Law (WISLAW).
- Sarra Saïdi (CAN)
As a licensed lawyer in Paris and Ontario, Sarra Saïdi specialises in international arbitration, commercial litigation, and sports law. Experienced in safeguarding cases, she is actively involved in Canada’s Abuse-Free Sport program as a specialised legal advisor.
- Saksham Samarth (IND)
Saksham Samarth is an International Sports Lawyer at Uno-One Legal in Valencia, Spain who advises on regulatory, disciplinary, anti-doping, commercial and contractual issues in sports including football, boxing, fencing, skiing, taekwondo and rugby union. He represents athletes, clubs, coaches, agents, officials and associations across sports.
- Victoria Wiegleb (GBR)
Victoria Wiegleb is Safeguarding Manager at the England and Wales Cricket Board where she leads a team of Country Safeguarding Advisors who proactively strive to ensure everything within a cricket environment is safe and welcoming for everyone. Victoria is also part of Pentathlon GB’s Case Management Group.
Following on from the adoption of World Sailing’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures last year this is a further commitment to safe sport and the prevention of harassment and abuse in sailing. The members were carefully recruited in order to ensure global representation with a balance of experience and expertise in safeguarding and disciplinary.
