Season’s greetings from the World Sailing President

Dear sailing family and friends, 

As we approach the end of 2024, I want to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your incredible contributions to our sport this year and extend my best wishes to all of our friends, partners and sailors around the world. 

This has been a year of remarkable achievements. The Olympic sailing in Marseille saw thrilling competition, showcasing the pinnacle of our sport on the world stage, and the debut of two new events. The America’s Cup once again captivated audiences worldwide with its innovative technology and fierce competition. We also held the Youth Sailing World Championships in Lake Garda where the next generation of sailors flourished, and their achievements acknowledged at the World Sailing Awards with the introduction of the Young World Sailor of the Year Award. 

Looking further afield, our vibrant sailing community has continued to grow. From grassroots events, coaching clinics and festivals such as Steering the Course to national, regional and world championships, sailors of all ages and abilities have demonstrated incredible skill, sportsmanship, and passion throughout the year. 

This year has also been one of great progress in shaping the long-term future of our sport. We have launched a five-year strategy aimed at informing our decision-making for the next five years, encouraging engagement with our events, growing global participation, strengthening our governance, promoting sustainability and increasing inclusivity. These priorities are all absolutely crucial to ensuring the continued growth and success of our sport for many years to come. 

I am incredibly proud of the sailing community and the remarkable achievements we have accomplished together this year. Let us carry this momentum into the new year as we strive to inspire and empower sailors worldwide. Thank you all for your continued support.
