Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
World Sailing aims to drive gender equity and promote diversity and inclusion across the sport. Both as a federation and at World Sailing events we are on a journey to create a culture of belonging and sport for all. World Sailing’s social targets within Agenda 2030 and our commitment to the IOC’s equity and inclusion objectives, help facilitate our trajectory.
Gender parity is a key focus of Agenda 2030 for athletes competing at events and the race officials at these events.
World Sailing Trust conducted a strategic review of Women in Sailing, as part of their Access to Sailing work. This review focuses on increasing gender diversity in the sport of sailing. To understand your gender balance at a club, class or event this tool can be used.
World Sailing Women’s Forum aims to encourage and increase participation by women in all aspects of sailing. The 2021 Women’s Forum can be viewed here. As part of the governance reform, the Women’s Forum will transition to the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee to continue pushing barriers in this area.
Steering The Course is a global initiative by World Sailing to bring together sailing communities, highlighting the achievements of women already within the sport, as well as attracting those who have never tried it before.
Sailing is one of the very few sports in which able-bodied sailors and disabled sailors can participate on equal terms.
