World Sailing eSailing World Championship 2024: A New Era of Virtual Competition

In partnership with the leading digital sailing platform, Virtual Regatta, World Sailing continues its journey into the virtual realm with the 7th eSailing World Championship. Since its launch in 2018, the Championship has evolved, bringing together Olympic sailors, sailing enthusiasts, sports gamers, and newcomers from across the globe.

This year’s eSailing World Championship has drawn over 8,000 unique players and 25,000 recurring participants from 117 nations, showcasing the expanding reach of the sport. Players competed in over 18,000 races, with the servers hosting an impressive 113 days of racing time, and players collectively racking up a total of 1,010 days of race time. Almost 900 skilled competitors vied for top positions, making it one of the most fiercely contested seasons yet. All those number were only in 6 week of actual racing.

One of the most significant factors driving this growth is the low entry barrier. The game is free-to-play and accessible on mobile devices, tablets, and browsers, making it easy for anyone to dive into the world of eSailing and experience the excitement of competitive sailing.

The eSailing World Championship continues to grow, supported by this year’s Nations Cup and exciting future plans. Next year, there are unconfirmed plans to introduce a 3v3 Team Race World Championship, expanding the competitive formats available to players. Additionally, eSailing is planning to be part of the Olympic Esports Games in Riyadh.

World Sailing remains committed to inclusivity through initiatives like Steering the Course, aimed at increasing female participation in eSailing. We’re also exploring new programs to engage youth and potentially parasailors, broadening the horizons of this virtual sport and ensuring its continued growth and diversity.

All eyes now turn to Stockholm on 24 November, where the finalists will gather for the much-anticipated live event to crown the 2024 eSailing World Champion.
